Они есть. Вернее, в бумажном виде были почти всегда и публиковались через месяц-другой после публикации оригинальной статьи: сомневающиеся писали в редакцию, спрашивали, возражали; редакция связывалась с авторами статьи, передавала им вопросы, получала ответ, передавала ответы сомневающимся, получала ответ от них и через месяц-другой -- публиковала их в бумажном виде; для особо горячих статей такая переписка была вполне сопоставима с объемами оригинальных публикаций. Если там просто высказывалось мнение, без возражений, то "комменты" публиковались быстрее. Потом British Medical Journal, один из монстров в этой медицинской области, то ли в 2003, то ли в 2004, сделал комментарии на сайте, конечно, модерируемые. Сейчас это есть очень у многих журналов. 1) Изучить тему, 2) Сформировать несколько ключевых идей материала, 3) Подтвердить, скорректировать или опровергнуть идеи, 4) Находить фактуру через разные каналы, не застревая лишь в одном, пересекать источники, 5) Писать так, чтобы интересно читать было тебе самому, 6) Показать текст специалистам/экспертам, 7) Много раз перечитать то, что получилось. - Сова, удочеряющая носок

One temp agency candidate tweaked her résumé titles from "manager" and "freelance trend researcher" to "staff" and "office support." The reason? Conversational threads on the Internet should be independent of the medium they’re displayed in. That is, mailing lists, newsgroups, and web forums are all the same thing. They’re just different interfaces to the same data structure, and that data structure is the thread: a series of messages with directional reply relationships to one another. “The thread is the fundamental unit of conversational information on the Internet, and the message relationships in a thread are independent of the mechanism used to access that thread.” The world needs a unified conception of The Thread, something we can write programming interfaces for that then any client software can implement. This is not completely trivial, because in most messaging systems, the threads are not explicitly recorded. Instead, metadata attached to each message just says what earlier messages it is a followup to, and the threads are reconstructed from this. - Сова, удочеряющая носок

rants не читал но скажу что это близорукий взгляд. чаще всего ровно наоборот -- треды это след от того что у нескольких людей было одновременно открыто одинаковое поле ввода в одинаковых интерфейсах, дополнительно проштампованный водяным знаком owner'а / модератора / держателя плюсомета или банхаммера. - в подарочной упаковке
